It is one thing to have talent, but it is having focus, hard work & strong drive, workability, passion and having good attitude that keeps Chop Suey in business. Whether it be live performance, session drumming, drum lessons, writing or blogging, Chop Suey's approach is always as a musician first and drummer second.
The Power of Drums
Born and bred in the heart of Detroit, Chop Suey isn't just another drummer—she's a force to be reckoned with. Her beats break boundaries, her vibes are unparalleled, and her resilience is unmatched. Whether you've grooved to her live performances, spun her recordings, collaborated with her closely, soaked up her teachings, shared a conversation, or delved into her writings, you'll understand why she's celebrated for her electrifying energy, genre-defying style, and sheer musical prowess.
Chop's sound defies convention, blending influences from Rock, Funk, Blues, Gospel, Hip-Hop, Soul, and Jazz. Drawing inspiration from drumming legends like Karriem Riggins, Questlove, and John Bonham, she's forged a path uniquely her own.
Her musical journey began in the pews of a Detroit church at just 13, and by 17, she was tearing it up at local venues, setting the stage for a career as a hired gun. After college, she turned her passion into education, making waves as a teacher and director in Chicago while still hitting the road and working remotely.
But music isn't just a career for Chop—it's a calling, a spiritual odyssey.
"Music emanates from within. It's spiritual. It's everything," she says. "To master music, you must first master yourself. Connecting with your higher self is the key to unlocking your fullest potential. That's the truth I've dedicated my life to."
So dive in and discover the magic of everyone's favorite drummer. Chop Suey's rhythm will move you like never before.
